Connecting English Learner Families to Schools

A remote program for EL parents of school-aged children who want to learn about the American school system while improving their English language skills. There is a focus on computer applications for remote learning and family literacy.

Objectives

1

Increase access to English language acquisition instruction for adults, especially for the parents of students in the K-12 school system.

Establish a collaborative partnership between adult education programs and LEAs to support parents of EL students in NH K-12 schools with a focus on family literacy.

Provide a flexible delivery system through online classes with both day and evening options as well as synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities.

Assist English language learners with academic skill building; transition to postsecondary education/training and/or employment; and navigation of the American elementary, middle and high school systems.

Contribute to the statewide performance targets established under the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education for the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, Title II, of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.
